Humanities Faculty (Middle-Upper School)
Job Purpose Statement: Instructors in the Humanities (i.e., History, English, Literature) should be knowledgeable in their disciplines, competent in their ability to communicate with others, and able to promote the moral, intellectual, and spiritual development of young people. In addition, the teacher should embrace and be able to articulate the Catholic intellectual tradition; be an enthusiastic pedagogue—demonstrating to students the connections between the disciplines; and model virtue by his or her life and faith.
Specific duties related to the function of Humanities Faculty Member:
? Teach a full or part-time complement of courses in one’s discipline and in accord with the Chelsea Academy curriculum and scope and sequence.
? Mentor young people and develop their intellectual, social, and spiritual development.
? Communicate in a timely manner with parents and students on academic progress and on disciplinary issues.
? Work cooperatively with the Dean of Academics in developing a coherent curriculum in the Middle and Upper Schools.
? Work cooperatively with Lower, Middle, and Upper School faculty in developing and delivering a coherent and integrated curriculum.
? Work cooperatively with and under the direction of the Dean of Students in areas of student discipline.
? Participate in the Chelsea Academy Student Life Program and assist in areas of spiritual development of students and extracurricular life.
? Participate actively in faculty and departmental meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES
Required: Practicing Catholic in good standing Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities-related field Preferred: Master’s Degree in Humanities-related field; experience in liberal arts curriculum and pedagogy; Virginia Teacher’s License (not required)
