Description

St. Michael Catholic School is seeking a faith-filled, dynamic Middle School Religion Teacher to guide students in deepening their understanding and practice of the Catholic faith. The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic who is passionate about Catholic theology, committed to the mission of Catholic education, and skilled in connecting with middle school students in a meaningful and engaging way.

Position Overview

The Religion Teacher will lead students in grades 6–8 through the Church’s teachings, Sacred Scripture, Church history, and the Sacraments, while modeling a life of prayer, virtue, and service. This teacher will also help prepare students for important faith milestones and foster a classroom environment that promotes spiritual growth and academic excellence.

Qualifications

  • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church

  • Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Education, or a related field (required)

  • Religion Certification or willingness to pursue catechetical certification (preferred)

  • Experience teaching middle school students in a Catholic school or parish setting (preferred)

  • State certification or VCEA eligibility for certification in teaching (preferred)
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills

  • A deep understanding of and commitment to the teachings of the Catholic Church

  • Enthusiastic about integrating Catholic values across the curriculum and school culture

Responsibilities

  • Teach Religion to students in grades 6–8 following diocesan-approved curriculum

  • Prepare students for participation in liturgies, prayer services, retreats, and sacraments

  • Create a classroom environment centered on faith, respect, and academic engagement

  • Collaborate with colleagues, clergy, and administration to support the spiritual life of the school

  • Maintain accurate records and provide timely feedback on student progress

  • Actively participate in school Masses, faith formation activities, and professional development
